Lulu on cello with KOBE 100PAN

I am now practicing on 4 Cello with a special steelband for an event called "100PAN" in KOBE. This event is a memorial for the 20th anniversary of the Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in Japan. We will play three songs as the last appearance on the Kobe Steelpan Carnival stage this year. One of the songs is ”Pan Earthquake" arranged by Jit Samaroo.

Playing Panorama tune on a 4 Cello is very hard for me. This is because, you know, I'm only 4 feet 8, and I'm too short to play it, but I want to challenge myself. This band and this legendary song need more cello players. It is my only talent, so even if I don't have much talent, I will just try.


わたしは今、神戸で開催される100PANと言うイベントのスペシャルバンドのために4チェロを練習しています。阪神淡路大震災から20年めを記念して、このイベントは行われます。神戸スティールパンカーニバルの最後に、私たちは3曲演奏する予定で、そのうちの1曲がジットサマルーのアレンジによるパンアースクエイクです。

パノラマチューンを４チェロで演奏するのは私にとってとても大変なことです。私の身長は4フィート8インチしかなくて、チェロを叩くには小さすぎます。でも、どうしてもやりたかった。トリニダードと同じ100人編成のこのバンドには、そしてこの伝説の名曲には、もっとたくさんのチェロプレイヤーが必要なんです。才能がなくってもとにかくやってみる、それが私に与えられた才能だから。
